About Us
The Learning Habitat was founded out of a noticeable gap in the areas of Reading, Writing, French, and Math at the elementary level. We cater to the needs of parents who see the value of developing these essential skills.
Formerly a home-based institution, we are now a virtual operation offering parents a structured environment for their children which also encourages discipline and good values. We offer Reading, Writing, Math and French.
Experienced Professional
Our owner is a passionate advocate of education for children, with a Master's Degree and many years experience in Learning and Development. We strive to positively impact the lives of young children.
Unique Approach
We create customized and innovative learning strategies , ensuring student success. Children are rewarded for every milestone.
Private or Small Groups
Tutoring is done virtually with no more than two (2) students at a time, ensuring maximum benefit from each session.
Short & Focused Lessons
Each session lasts for one hour. You can have one or two sessions per week, depending upon your need and availability.
Our Focus
We take the necessary time to ensure that your child gets a solid foundation and is “ahead of the game” before entering school or even whilst in school. Each child receives specialized attention, bearing in mind unique individual needs. Sherie brings a Caribbean style of learning which focuses on academic skills whilst using varied sensory activities to encourage learning.
Private Tutoring
Each child is assessed in the relevant areas and a formal developmental plan executed.
Each session is highly engaging and involves practical worksheets and activities to ensure that students become active participants in the learning process.
The Learning Habitat also encourages parents to actively participate in their child’s assessments. This form of support builds confidence and provides motivation.
Subject Areas
Mathematics
Children will learn fundamentals of Mathematics and explore areas such as principles of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, telling the time, exploring measurement and dimensions, solving word problems, algebra, data management, fractions, decimals, percentages, linear functions and much more
Reading and Writing
We specialize in the Jolly Phonics Reading System. Students use workbooks, flash cards and a variety of written and verbal testing methods. Your child is guaranteed to start reading within the first 6 weeks. Penmanship and spelling are done concurrently in our Reading sessions.
French
Having your little ones start on an early path to learning French can put them at a distinct advantage. It helps them to develop greater communication and appreciation for other languages, and opens many doors of opportunities.
At The Learning Habitat, we provide that early start in an engaging way.
